BRIEF HISTORY OF BAAO DISTRICT
The Educational system of Baao District started on 1920 when an American Teacher, MARIUS JOHN organized the first one-grade class in the "Tribunal" a small stone building. It consisted of a day class for children and a night class for over-aged boys and girls. As enrollment increased, additional classes were opened and the local authorities acquired a four hectare site now called Baao Central School.
In 1909, a school was opened in one of the remotest sitesof Baao for the Negritos living in the area. More Barrio schools were opened as the demand for education grew until almost all the big barrios of Baao had their own school.
As the number of schools increased, the need for a more coordinated supervision and administration arose. Baao District then was created composed of the neighboring towns of Pili, Bula and Ocampo. The first supervising teacher was FAUSTINO BELZA. In 1945, Pili was made a separate school district while Bula became a separate District also in 1966. Baao became a school Dsitrict of it's own.
Supervisors who were assigned in Baao District were PEDRO NACIONAL, in 1935 - 1936, ALEJO ARCE in 1937 - 1948, ROMAN BELMONTE in 1949 - 1951, JOSE REYES in 1952 to 1954, ALEJANDRO PAPICA in 1954 to 1958, LEONCIO PARCO in 1958 to 1960, LUIS MALANYAON in 1960 - 1965, SULPICIO AMPARADO in 1965 to 1966, JOSE LLORENS in 1966 - 1974, OLAP B. BENOSA in 1975 to 1979, JUSTINO SABULARSE in 1979 to 1981, OLAP BENOSA in 1981 to 1985, LUIS AZCARAGA in 1986 to 1991, MRS. VICTORIA B. BRIONES in 1991 to 1997, MRS. GLORIA V. CORDEZ in 1997 to 2005, DELFINA B. OLAÑO in October to March 2006, GERARDO PEÑASERADA in 2006 - 2009, LOWEL I. BISENIO (OIC) 2009, FABILSNDO MATA, 2010 - 2012, CYRIL R. SALAZAR in 2012 to 2015, IRENE E. MALATE 2015 to present.
In 1966, Justino Sabularse, Principal of Baao Central School, organized the first Barangay High School located in Baao Central School with an enrolment of 97 first year students. The pioneer teachers were CELEDONIO ABLAN and MARIETTA MATALOTE. Elementary School Teachers who had their major fields of concentration taught as part time teachers in the newly organized High School. Classes were held in the Elementary School rooms not occupied by elementary pupils. The Barangay High School is located within the compound of Baao Central School with the imposing 3-storey building was donated by the Economic Support Fund of the U.S. Government. The Baao High School has its annex building in Barangay San Vicente along the National Highway.
In 1997, Baoa District has a total enrolment of 7,071 pupils. The administrative staff is composed of one (1) Public Schools District Supervisor, two (2) Elementary School Principal 2, four 94) Elem. School Principal 1, firve (5) Elem. School Head Teachers, 218 Teachers and three (3) Utility workers. Baao District had always enjoyed the full support and cooperation of the local Municipal Government. The Teachers Association (BADISTEA) has also been instrumental in the implementation of different projects for teachers welfare since its organization. The Local Municipal School Board has always been behind all programs and thrusts of the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS).
